Fan gearing

Probably the most tricky task; setting up the fan gearing. The position of the helical gear is quite critical, it has been set up as close as we can get it. Final adjustments will have to wait until the cap is lifted onto the tower. In the meantime, we have also fitted some remote greasing lines for the harder to reach bearings.

Frame turned over

Sorry for the delay in updating the blog. The frame has now been turned over with the help of a crane. The weather beam and fan posts/gearing were also lifted in.

Track fitted and fan frame ready

After a bit of fettling, the track is fixed to the underside of the cap frame. The assembly is now ready to be turned over. Meanwhile part of the fan frame has been set up, ready to be lifted on.

The big move

On Friday, the larger cap frame pieces were loaded, transported and dropped off at Quainton. Assembly of the main frame was pretty much complete by the end of the day.

Painting

The frame has been taken apart again - and rhe exposed timbers are being decorated with stain. Also, the bracket to hold the fan helical gear has been made.

Track fixed to curb

The previously drilled track sections have now been fixed to the curb; with set screws tapped into the wood and lengthy holding down bolts passed down into the brickwork.

Fan stage almost complete

Just a quick update to show progress with the fan stage. Next task will be setting up the fan spindle and gearing.
